    A very fine example of an unusual large model of compound microscope by Wasserlein in Berlin. We can date it from 1870’s.
    In 1850, Louis Bénèche took over the workshop founded by his father in 1820 and took Rudolf Wasserlein as a partner. In the style of Oberhauser, the company Bénèche & Wasserlein builds microscopes and quickly gains a good reputation for its excellent lens systems.
    In 1860, Bénèche and Wasserlein split up and henceforth build instruments in competition. Rudolf Wasserlein mainly produces smaller tripods and drum microscopes.
    The present example is a rare large model built by Wasserlein.
    The microscope is in pristine condition. It preserves 4 objectives (number 5, 9, 2 and one large immersion numbered “XI”), three eyepieces and a camera lucida.
    The signature on the inner main tube is quite decorative and elaborated.
    Everything is preserved in the original mahogany case.
